The Short Cut:
A quick fire chat about working life with Audrey A-Kuklewski
At the heart of the Nurture Network is the power of sharing experiences. From breakthrough career moments, to best ever advice, how to deal with stress and the women that inspire them.
Tell us about your breakthrough career moment
My breakthrough career moment was when I decided to finish my career as a CIMA accountant to pursue entrepreneurship. Despite the risks and uncertainties, I was determined to follow my dreams and build a brand that empowers women to feel confident and beautiful.
Starting Olyinka Lingerie has been a challenging and rewarding experience, and it has taught me a lot about resilience, creativity, and leadership. I am proud of what I have accomplished so far and excited about future possibilities.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever had?
The best piece of advice I’ve ever had is to never give up, even when things get tough. This advice has helped me through many difficult situations in both my personal and professional life. It reminds me that challenges are an inevitable part of any journey and that the only way to achieve success is to persevere and keep moving forward.
I have learned to focus, be optimistic, and not be so hard on myself. I have also grown as a person.
Have you ever felt held back as a women?
Fortunately, I have never felt held back as a woman in business. In fact, being a woman has helped me in many ways because it has allowed me to bring a unique perspective, creativity, and empathy to my work.
I have never personally experienced any direct discrimination or bias because of my gender or colour, but indirectly – yes, of course, and this is why I am committed to using my platform to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of my business and beyond.
How do you protect your mental health in moments of pressure?
When I am feeling pressure, I love to take long walks to clear my head, practice meditation and mindfulness and eat cake.
These activities help me to clear my mind, reduce stress, and regain a sense
of balance and perspective, especially the cake part.
Do you have any hobbies to keep you busy in your spare time?
As an entrepreneur, I don’t have much spare time. However, I do make an effort to engage in hobbies and interests. For example, I enjoy listening to music, watching a movie, and learning new skills. YouTube is my go-to earning library.
I also try to stay involved in my community by volunteering, attending events, or supporting causes that I care about. These activities not only provide me with a break from work, but also help me to stay connected, inspired, and motivated.
I feel empowered when…
…I am working towards my purpose.
The world would be a better place when…
… we champion the well-being of others and the planet. This means valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion, promoting social and environmental justice, and cultivating innovation and collaboration.
We can make the world a better place by supporting each other, listening to diverse perspectives, and working together towards common goals. It may not be easy, but it is possible, and every small step we take in this direction can make a meaningful difference.
The woman everyone should know about is…
…the women operating in her purpose.
The woman who empowers me the most is…
… the woman above! This woman may be a public figure, a community leader, or an unsung hero, but what she has in common is her dedication to creating a better world, making a difference in the lives of others and inspiring us all to do the same.
Where is your favourite place in the world…
My favourite place in the world is my home, which is where I feel the most comfortable, safe, and loved. It is where I can be myself, surrounded by my family, friends, and belongings.
Home is where I can relax, recharge, and reflect on my life and goals. It is also where I can create and nurture my dreams, and where I can make a positive impact on the world through my actions and decisions.
While there are many beautiful and inspiring places in the world, nothing can compare to the feeling of being at home.
