Tell us about your breakthrough career moment

I had just returned to work after having my first child and I was itching to do something in digital marketing specifically. I was contacted about a brand manager opportunity from a contact and I thought I would need to settle in a generic brand position. It turns out they were looking for someone digital anyway and changed the role and title. It turned out to be the best move I have made in my career so far and opened many doors for me. It is worth the leap sometimes!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever had?

If you meet 100% of the criteria in a job advert, you are likely overqualified. Don’t let a couple of criteria missing, stand in your way of applying.

Have you ever felt held back as a women?

Yes, especially as a younger woman in a management role where most of the senior management were older men. I know it shouldn’t be the case but I always pushed myself harder to prove my worth over and above colleagues at the same level. I have been known to call out when there has been an “all-male” decision, especially when working on products for pregnant women that should have had a female perspective.

How do you protect your mental health in moments of pressure?

Upbeat music, singing and yoga. Although I am always looking to get better at taking my own mental health seriously and protecting it, so I feel I am still learning.

Do you have any hobbies to keep you busy in your spare time?

I love making something with my hands. I knit, crochet and cross-stitch when I need a break from screens.

I feel empowered when…

…I finish something I am passionate about.

The world would be a better place when…

…there doesn’t need to be tips of how women can be more like men in business.

The woman everyone should know about is…

The woman who empowers me the most is…

Where is your favourite place in the world?

Rome.
