The Short Cut:

A quick fire chat about working life with Mildred Talabi

Mildred Talabi, Founder, Visible Woman

The Short Cut designed to bring you a snapshot of our members’ working lives. Today we’re speaking to Mildred Talabi, a LinkedIn visibility & personal branding coach for female leaders & business owners, and founder, Visible Women Tribe.

At the heart of the Nurture Network is the power of sharing experiences. And as part of our inaugural Lean In, Lift Up event we are bringing you a series of conversations with our speakers, supporters and allies. They will share insights about their breakthrough career moments, to best ever advice, how to deal with stress and the women that inspire them.

Tell us about your breakthrough career moment?

After years of straddling a day job and entrepreneurship, I came to the complete realisation earlier this year that business is definitely the way forward for me!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever had?

One that comes to mind is this: “Your goals are not unrealistic – just your timescale”

Have you ever felt held back as a woman in business?  How did you respond?

I’ve experienced the downside of not being visible in my career – not speaking up in important meetings; not “networking” internally with the right people; saying no to opportunities I didn’t feel ready for; waiting for my hard work to “speak” for me. These things worked against me without my conscious knowledge for years. This is why I’m passionate about the work I do today – helping women to step out of the shadows and into the limelight in their work lives through being visible on LinkedIn.

How do you protect your mental health in moments of pressure?

I am grounded by and in my Christian faith. Prayer is a key part of my life that helps me find peace.

I feel empowered when…

…I’m operating in my greatest purpose which is to inspire and change people’s lives.

The woman who empowers me the most is…

Myself. It sounds arrogant, I know, but that’s not my intention. Empowerment for me comes from within – from the quest to conquer myself daily and become the best version of myself each stage of the way.

The woman that everyone should know about…

…The woman sitting right next to you right now. We all have a story. We all have a voice that needs to be heard. My new podcast, Start Being Visible, was created with the mission to amplify the voices and raise the visibility of women in every industry.

Do you have any hobbies?

…I love watching movies. I’m a mum of two daughters with multiple talents so a lot of my spare time is spent playing cab driver from club to club!
