At the heart of the Nurture Network is the power of sharing experiences. From breakthrough career moments, to best ever advice, how to deal with stress and the women that inspire them.

The Short Cut designed to bring you a snapshot of our members’ working lives. Today we’re speaking to Neema Amin, Founder & Business Strategist at Escape Strategist

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever had?

Live within your means and invest early and often – this advice helped me reach financial independence at 39.

Have you ever felt held back as a woman in business? How did you respond?

Yes, the peaks in my career came in my 30’s, as I started a family. The mental and emotional struggle of wanting to be a great Mum and still pursue huge career opportunities is real. I took a sideways shift into hybrid tech/business roles outside of investment banking so I could find some level of balance.

How do you protect your mental health in moments of pressure?

This isn’t something I have been great at, I’ve learnt exercise really help me, especially running, perhaps there’s a metaphorical aspect here as well as physical!

Do you have any hobbies to keep you busy in your spare time?

Embarrassingly almost none! This hit me when I took a mini-retirement a few years ago and past the first month struggled to just relax and enjoy an activity – all I knew and understood was work.

I feel empowered when…

I feel content and at peace with myself. The moments when I don’t hear the voice telling me ‘are you sure you can do this?’ or ‘are you really smart enough?’

The world would be a better place when…

every woman can go for a run day or night without fearing for her safety.

The first thing a do in the morning is…

…check my phone

The woman who empowers me the most is…

Oprah – it’s cliche but listening to her always raises my confidence and gives me a feeling that I can do this.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

Tuscany, Italy.
